Redskins Looking for a Deal to Move Up and Grab Sanchez?

The Redskins have a liking for USC QB Mark Sanchez, and today’s Washington Post columnist Jason Reid reports that the team may look to play “Let’s Make a Deal” on Saturday to move up so they can grab Sanchez before another team gets their hands on him.

The Skins only have one pick in the first 79 selections, so they are going to have to trade a porition of picks of their future in order to be able to move up to grab Sanchez, who has been climbing the charts of many mock drafts, to the point where some think he’s going to be better than Matthew Stafford. “I think anything is possible,” Vinny Cerrato, Washington’s executive vice president of football operations, said during the predraft news conference at Redskins Park. “It’s just what you’re willing to give up.”

The pick that the Skins hold is the 13th overall, meaning that they likely would have to throw that and a whole lot more in a package deal. They have five total picks but none in the second and fourth rounds. League sources said that Sanchez impressed owner Daniel Snyder during his visit with the team last week. As everyone knows, what Snyder wants, he usually gets.

Some still think that the Skins are not all that happy with having to start the season with Jason Campbell at QB, which is why they have quickly and quietly fallen in love with Sanchez. Mind you though that the USC thrower started only 16 games for the Trojans, but many say that he’s the better QB of the first round, and he has a lot of charisma and commanding presence, NFL sources said. He has drawn interest from several clubs that pick ahead of the Redskins.
