Quarterly Break Down of 2009 schedule – Part Two

2nd Quarter: @ Panthers, Vs. Chiefs, Vs. Eagles (Monday Night), Bye, @ Falcons

Last season the NFC South collectively went 24-2 for home games. The second quarter of the season sends the Redskins traveling into NFC South territory. The Panthers went undefeated at home last season while the Falcons did a superb job of protecting the Dome (1 home loss). Keep an eye out on DeAngelo Hall’s performance during this second quarter stretch. The emotion of playing at a stadium which he called home for 4 years can work for or against a player. His time spent in the NFC South also spawned an on-field rivalry with Panther’s star receiver, Steve Smith. The two players have been known to get into extra-curricular activity after the play has been blown dead.

The Redskins face the first of their AFC West opponents when the Kansas City Chiefs visit FedEx field. The Redskins have been particularly miserable against the AFC and specifically, the AFC West. But when a team in rebuild mode with a first year head coach comes into your building, nothing less than a blow out is tolerable.

Right in the heart of all the games lays a Monday night match up against the Eagles. The Redskins didn’t win any of their 3 prime time games last year so let’s hope they shook off their stage fright. Both the ‘Skins and Eagles have Super Bowl on the mind and the path to the Promised Land starts with division wins. After the Monday game, the highly anticipated bye week awaits the Redskins as they head into the 3rd quarter of their season.
