Quarterly Break Down of 2009 schedule

Redskins Giants Football
1st Quarter: @ Giants, Vs. Rams, @ Lions, Vs. Buccaneers

An interesting statistic was mentioned by the commentators during the Dolphins-Redskins opening game of the 2007 season. The stat; teams that lose their first game are 60-67% more likely to miss the playoffs. For further evidence, 2006 opener- Loss, missed playoffs, 2007 opener- Win, playoff appearance, 2008 opener- Loss, missed playoffs. Hopefully some of us remember how to convert fractions to percentages from high school math because 2 losses out of 3 games translates to 66.6%.

Every team played the first quarter of the season is in the NFC. Conference wins and losses make the difference in late-season playoff seeding. Along with very early playoff implications there is no need to mention how huge a season opening inner-division road victory would be. Especially against a team that won the Super Bowl two years ago and swept us clean out of Giant stadium and Fedex Field last year.

The Next three games serve as an important momentum builder. Each of the next three teams faced by the ‘Skins will be showcasing 1st year head coaches. The last time the Redskins played NYG, STL, and TB the ‘Skins walked away with a loss. The Rams, Bucs, and Lions collectively went 11-48 last season, so settling for anything less than 3 wins in the first 4 games is unacceptable and potentially devastating.
