Putting the ‘C’ in C.P.

FBN-MINNESOTA VIKINGS-WASHINGTON REDSKINS
Two out of the past four seasons for the Washington Redskins have been pushed in to playoffs by the thoroughbred-esque legs of star running back Clinton Portis.

Whether Clinton is assisting in pass protection, grinding up yardage like cheap hamburger meat, or lending a hand (or arm) throwing for touchdowns, he is consistently helping the offense in its journey towards pay dirt. Clinton even offered his assistance for the punting unit stating in an interview earlier this year, “if they ask me to come in and start punting, I’m gonna get my leg ready and learn how to be a punter.”

As much as the Redskins fan base would love to see Portis pinning opposing teams against their goal lines with his twist on the corner coffin punt, I doubt it will ever manifest. But what is possible for Portis due to his consistency on the field is a shot at being one of two offensive team captains this season.

CP is on track to proving himself worthy of the accolade. By showing up to voluntary off-season workouts (despite several media outlets reporting the contrary) Portis is displaying a leadership and maturity that has not been seen by his teammates in seasons prior. After all, the 6 team captains are voted on by the players so who better to impress then them?

The incumbents for offensive captains are offensive tackle Chris Samuels and quarterback Jason Campbell. Taking one of their ‘C’ badges away will be hard job but if CP wants, CP can get it.
