What’s the Worth of Carlos Rogers?

DeAngelo Hall didn’t sign a $55 Million contract to back someone up. Needless to say he will be the starting corner to start the season. So whomever the other starting cornerback turns out to be, coupled with Hall, the two players will make a formidable front for the defensive backfield. Since losing playing time around mid-season, Carlos Rogers has stated he wants a divorce from Washington.

“I’m a starter in this league. Everybody knows that. There’s a lot of teams that would give their right arm to have me on their team.” Someone should give him another right arm so he can make and interception or defend a pass here and there. The biggest knock on Rogers is that he couldn’t catch anything he got his hands on.

2005 playoff game in Seattle he dropped a sure pick-6, Opening Monday night game 2006 against Minnesota; two more dropped INT’s, and the season opener of 2008 Eli Manning sent multiple gifts his way. Carlos accepted none of them.

Sending Rogers to another team might pay dividends in the long run but not without slight consequence. On one hand, the Redskins would be losing a starting-caliber Corner who plays well against physical receivers and has decent speed.

An upside to parting ways with the former first round draft pick (#9 overall, 2005) is a team out there that might be willing to swap a second round pick for him. That’s one way the Redskins can get back some lost draft picks like the two lost in the Jason Taylor 2.0 experiment.

Second year man Justin Tryon could be a candidate to fill the spot if he can beat out Fred Smoot and Byron Westbrook in camp. The ‘Skins could even address an empty DB position via draft with one of their 4 picks (5 picks if this hypothetical scene plays out).
