Redskins D Steps Up Big in 10-3 Win Over Eagles

Playoff hopes may have ended last week with a loss to the Bengals, but don’t tell the Redskins that.  Sunday at home vs the Eagles, the Skins put on a good enough show on defense against a red hot Eagles offense and in the end came out with a 10-3 victory that puts them at 8-7 on the season.

The victory was heart stopping to say the least, as the Eagles had a shot at the end, as wide out Reggie Brown pulled in a pass just a tad short of the goal line as he went up for the grab in the final seconds.  Fred Smoot and LaRon Landry were right there to nail Brown, stopping him at the one, and the clock ticked off the final seconds securing the win for Washington.

Both teams played tough D, as the Redskins were held to just 249 yards of offense, 122 rushing and 127 passing.  Clinton Portis scored the only offensive TD of the day, and that came in the third quarter at the 8:43 mark to make it 10-0 Redskins.  Portis ended the day with 70 yards on 22 carries.

Jason Campbell was 18-for-33 for 144 yards.  He didn’t make any major mistakes though, as he was error free.  The Skins didn’t commit any turnovers in the close win, while the Eagles did lose a fumble.  Washington also controlled the ball for close to seven more minutes than the Eagles.

Donovan McNabb was 26-for-46 for 230 yards and he was sacked twice.  Brian Westbrook was held in check, as he had just 45 yards on 12 carries, his longest carry was just 12 yards.  Westbrook did have 6 grabs for 71 yards.  L.J. Smith was busy, as he had 7 catches for 49 yards from McNabb.

The kudos goes to the Skins defense and coordinator Greg Blache, who stopped an Eagles offense that was putting up 33 points per game in their winning streak.  The Skins rebounded well from their ugly loss to the Bengals last week, and can wrap up the year 9-7 next week as they play at San Fran next Sunday in a game that will be for nothing more than pride.
