Redskins Win 2nd Straight Topping Cards 24-17

Skins celebrate a win

Overcoming an opening weekend loss to the Giants, the Redskins made it two in a row Sunday, topping the Arizona Cardinals 24-17 at FedEx Field.  A key tip drill interception in the fourth quarter of Cards QB Kurt Warner that eventually got in the hands of Carlos Rogers got returned to the Cards 15, setting up the game-winning score as Jason Campbell hit Santana Moss from 15 yards out in the fourth quarter.

The Cardinals had a shot late towards midfield, but after an incompletion on third down and four, coach Ken Whisenhunt decided to punt the ball, and it would be the last time the Cardinals would touch it on offense. Campbell hit Chris Cooley for a first down, and that was it as the Skins were able to run the clock out to ice the win.

Campbell ended the day 22-for-30 for 193 yards with two TD’s and no picks.  Clinton Portis ran for 68 yards and a score, and Moss and Cooley combined for 14 grabs for 147 yards and the Moss TD that gave Washington the win.  The Cardinals were led by Warner, who went 16-for-30 for 192 yards and two TD’s and the big pick.

Warner played a pretty solid game, finding Anquan Boldin for a score and later a long 62-yard score to Larry Fitzgerald that tied the game at 17.  All that will be remembered though will be the pick that he threw looking for Steve Breston deep down the middle that gave the Skins the ball and eventually the score to win the game.

Fitzgerald ended the day with 7 grabs for 109 yards and a score.  Edgerrin James had 93 yards on 18 carries.  Tim Hightower ran for 23 yards on five carries.  The Skins travel to Dallas next week to play the 3-0 Cowboys.  Arizona will stay East this week, as they wil practice on the east coast and then play Brett Favre and the Jets Sunday at the Meadowlands.
