Redskins Slapped Around by Jags 24-3 in Preseason Finale

After three solid preseason outings that got fans thinking about what could be in 2008, the Washington Redskins hit a wall last week and tonight, losing to the Jacksonville Jaguars 24-3 to finish the preseason 3-2.  Washington went against the norm, and their starters played to start the game on offense, and the move backfired, as QB Jason Campbell threw a pick on their first play, and their second series went three-and-out.  The third series ended with another pick, as Campbell finished 1-for-4 with 3 yards and two picks.

Jacksonville got solid QB play from their three throwers, as David Garrard, Cleo Lemon and Todd Bouman all threw TD passes vs the Skins defense.  Chauncey Washington played well in a backup role for the Jags as well, rushing for 68 yards on 11 carries.  He also caught four passes for 40 yards.  Most of the backups for both teams played over the final three quarters.

Garrard played three series total, going 5-for-8 for 58 yards with a TD.  He did throw a pick.  Lemon took over for Garrard late in the first quarter, and in the second quarter he threw his first touchdown pass of the preseason, a 4-yard throw to Greg Estandia. Third-stringer Bouman hit Troy Williamson for a 51-yard scoring pass in the fourth.

Skins backup QB rookie Colt Brennan played well again in relief for Washington, going 13-for-18 for 119 yards.  He led the teams only scoring drive, which ended in a field goal.  The team starts the regular season after being beaten by a total of 71-6 over their last two preseason games.  They start the regular season vs the Giants on Thursday in the NFL opener.

The Jags wrap up the preseason at 3-1, and will take on the South rival Titans on the road on Sunday the 7th at 1pm.
