Redskins Ink Rookie Defensive Backs

The signings add youth and quality depth to a defense that was rank in the top 10 last season. The First signing announced was a 7th round selection out of UCLA Chris Horton. Chris started every game at safety during his final two seasons with the Bruins. As a senior in 2007 Chris was second on the team with 90 tackles.During his junior season in 2006 he led the team in tackles recording 95. Horton stands 6-1 an weighs 216 pounds, and was the 249th overall pick in Aprils draft. To make room on the roster the Redskins released safety Justin Hamilton.
The Skins also announced the signing of cornerback Justin Tryon, a 4th round draft pick , from Arizona State. Tryon was a 3rd team All- American, and 2nd team All Pac- 10 in 2007. Justin played 2 season at Arizona State, starting 26 games. Put up solid numbers during his 2 years recording over 100 tackles, 4 int, 23 pass deflections , and scoring 1 touchdown. He is a bit undersized (5-9 190 pounds) to match up with divisional recievers, but could effectivly play the slot or nickel back. Washington coach Greg Blache stated ” He likes to talk, He doesn’t lack confidence, He is Smoots Mini-Me.” The Redskins released safety Patrick Ghee to make roster room for J.T.
