Numerous Players Expected to be Cut by Skins

Brunell

Today’s Washington Post reports that it appears that a couple of players are on their way out in DC. The three players that the Skins are not expected to resign include QB Todd Collins, QB Mark Brunell and WR Keenan McCardell. Both QB’s are free agents and should end up with backup roles around the league somewhere. Collins played great down the stretch, and was a huge reason the Skins were able to claw their way into the playoffs as the 6th seed. Then he didn’t play well in the teams playoff loss in Seattle, and is expected to be dumped. Collins could join Al Saunders in St.Louis, and could be a solid backup to Marc Bulger, who was injured for portions of last season for the lowly Rams.

As for Brunell, he may end up retiring after signing a one-year deal last year with the Skins for less money. Brunell did not appear in any games in 2007 after playing in 10 games a season ago and throwing 8 touchdowns and four interceptions. He has played in 14 NFL seasons dating back to his short time in Green Bay in 1994.

McCardell likely will retire at the age of 38, last season with the Skins in his only season with them he caught 22 passes averaging 11.6 yards per catch. Also possibly on their way out in Washington includes WR Brandon Lloyd, James Thrash and reserve Reche Caldwell, who has knee issues.
