Report Says Williams the Front Runner for Skins Job

Williams

While the Skins will still talk to Colts assistant coaches Jim Caldwell and Ron Meeks possibly as early as today, the Washington Post is throwing it out there that the team will likely hire current defensive coordinator Gregg Williams to be the teams next head coach, taking the spot left vacated by Joe Gibbs.

Williams sat down with team owner Daniel Synder at Snyder’s home yesterday.  The thought is that with the hiring of Williams, the team would maintain stability, which many around the league think would be important to the Redskins, who made the playoffs as a wild card this past season.  Williams’ defensive units have played well, as they have finished ranked in the top 10 during three of the last four seasons.

Many felt right off the bat that the team would stick with either Williams or offensvie coordinator Al Saunders when Gibbs stepped down.  They may be right if the current course remains on track, with Williams getting the shot many felt that he was groomed to take the moment that he signed a new deal to stay on with the Skins.
