Portis rests knee

For those of you who were curious as to why Redskins running back Clinton Portis was invisible for the important offensive drives during the New York Giants game, it was more than just the Skins’ coaches choosing to use RB Ladell Betts during goal-line situations.
Portis, who missed the entire preseason with tendonitis in his right knee, wasn’t in pads on Monday because of the knee issue. According to Redskins head coach Joe Gibbs, “His knee is still a little agitated, and we’ll see how it goes this week. It was just a soreness that came out of [the Sept. 23 loss to the New York Giants].” Portis was unavailable for comment.
