Redskins sign WR McCardell

Keenan McCardellThe Washington Redskins, perhaps looking to add depth to their receiving corps, signed wide receiver Keenan McCardell on Monday.  McCardell has 861 career catches with the Cleveland Browns, Jacksonville Jaguars, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and San Diego Chargers.  McCardell was cut by the Chargers after last season and almost signed with the Redskins in July 2007, but opted to sign with the Houston Texans who subsequentially cut him at the end of training camp.

McCardell looks to be a welcome addition to the Redskins, as WR Santana Moss strained his groin against the New York Giants and his status is unclear for this weekend’s contest against the Detroit Lions.  To make room for McCardell, the Redskins released safety Otis Stoutmire.
