Redskins Blow 14 Point Halftime Lead To Giants in Loss

Ladell Betts (46) is tackled by New York Giants linebacker Kawika Mitchell (55) close to the end zone during the fourth quarter

The Redskins jumped ahead of the New York Giants by 14 points at the half, only to give up 21 unanswered points to their NFC East rivals on the way to a 24-17 loss at FedEx Field.  For the Giants, Eli  Manning connected with Plaxico Burress for the lead touchdown with under six minutes to play.  The Giants’ defense came up with a huge goal-line stand with less than a minute to go in Landover, to hand Washington its first loss of the season.  Manning was 21-of-36 for 232 yards and two interceptions to go with his touchdown pass.  Reuben Droughns ran for two scores for the Giants.  The G-Men scored 21 unanswered points after the break for their first victory of 2007.  Jason Campbell  hit on 16-of-34 passes for 190 yards and a touchdown for Washington.  Clinton Portis had 60 yards rushing and a score.  Fellow back Ladell Betts was stopped on back-to-back plays at the one-yard line with less than a minute left that cost Washington a chance to force overtime.  The Redskins are off next weekend and will host the Detroit Lions on October 7th.
