Caldwell’s Arrival May Mean Less Playing Time for Lloyd

Lloyd watches one sail past him

When the Redskins grabbed Brandon Lloyd awhile back, he was expected to have a big impact on the teams passing game.  Not only has he not been what they thought he would be, Lloyd may now be in danger of not getting on the field much at all after the Skins this week picked up former Charger and Patriot wide out Reche Caldwell.  Right now Lloyd is the number three reciever on the Skins depth chart, behind Santana Moss and Antwaan Randle El, and if Caldwell can make a quick impact, Lloyd might just find even more time on the bench.

Lloyd came to the Skins from the 49’ers in 2006 for two draft choices, and signed a contract extension.  He has just 23 grabs for 365 yards in 16 games for the Skins, and has gone over 50 yards recieving just once.  Lloyd says for now he is not concerned about the arrival of Caldwell.  “Any move that’s made is for the betterment of the team,” Lloyd said of Caldwell’s arrival. As to his productivity, Lloyd said, “I can only put up production with the opportunities given to me, that’s it.”

Right now Washington is carrying 6 wide outs, and as far as how fast Caldwell gets on the field and possibly starts taking time away from Lloyd, it seems to be on when he picks up the system.  “It depends on how quickly he picks it up,” Coach Joe Gibbs said.
