Overtime Fine for Redskins in 16-13 Win over Miami

Campbell calls out the play

The Redskins rode the right leg of Shaun Suisham to an exciting 16-13 win over the Miami Dolphins in overtime to kick off the regular season in Landover.  Suisham booted a 39-yard field goal about five-and-a-half minutes into the extra session to carry Washington to victory at FedEx Field.   A nine-yard carry by Clinton Portis set up Suisham’s decisive kick.  Portis had 98 yards rushing on 17 carries.  Through the air, quarterback Jason Campbell was 12-of-21 with 222 yards and two interceptions.

The Redskins have won a season opener for the fifth time in the last six years.  The Dolphins new quarterback, Trent Green, connected on 24-of-38 passes for 219 yards.  Miami mustered little ground game.  Ronnie Brown had only 32 yards on 11 carries.  The Dolphins managed just 66 yards on the ground.  The bad news for the Redskins is a dislocated right ankle to offensive tackle Jon Jansen.  There is no word yet how long the integral part of the line will be sidelined.  Washington’s next game is a week from tonight on the road with the NFC East rival Philadelphia Eagles.  The Birds opened their season with a 16-13 loss to the Green Bay Packers.
