Portis To Sit Out Saturday Scrimmage

Running back Clinton Portis will sit out Saturday’s scrimmage against the Baltimore Ravens. The star running back has tendinitis in a knee. Among the offensive linemen, called upon to fill in for injured Pro Bowl tackle Chris Samuels, is Stephon Heyer from Maryland. He says he’s in awe of players such as Jon Jansen and Randy Thomas because they wind up finding someone to block even when play dictates a shift from the designed formation. Offensive line coach Joe Bugel says a month before the start of the regular season, each contender will get a good look to try to make the team. Samuels has a sprained knee and will miss all the preseason games. Washington worked out under the lights at Redskins Park last night. Coach Joe Gibbs says he wanted to mix up the drill schedule a bit.
