Good News on Portis – Back Ahead of Schedule

The team got some great news at a their most recent mini-camp, as running back Clinton Portis appears ahead of schedule as he tries to come back to the team after suffering from knee tendonitis and a shoulder injury. Redskins.com reported on Sunday that Portis was able to participate in some drills and team work during all three days of the recent Redskins mini-camp.

“My shoulder feels really good but my knee is still a little sore from running around,” Portis said to the teams website. “My shoulder really hasn’t given me a problem. I am focusing on strengthening my quads right now so that I can get my knee healthy.” The good news for the Redskins is that Portis was not in line to be on the field at all for any of the practices, but did gut them out. Now his goal is just to get back to being as close to 100 percent as possible.

Head coach Joe Gibbs, who realizes that the season could indeed ride on the legs of his stud back, was happy with the way things went over the mini-camp. “We knew he was getting closer, but we kind of left it up to him as far as when to [practice],” Gibbs said. “He looked good. I think he’s ahead of schedule, so that is encouraging.”
